Sustained good weather, stability of the foreign exchange market and world market oil price have co-joined to press down domestic consumer prices that dogged down the economy until December last year.
Both food and non-food general level of prices increased at a slower rate in January 2007, at the average of 1.8 percent compared to the leap of 2.9 percent recorded in December last year.
Figures released by the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) through its monthly economic review last month indicated that prices of the items in the non-food categories "drinks, clothing, rent, and private secondary school fees", slightly went up by 0.6 percent compared to 0.4 percent observed in December last year.
However, the annual overall inflation continued to move upwards in January 2007 mainly because of increased food and non-food inflation.
