Sauti za Busara festival to be held next month

THE ‘Sauti za Busara’ Music festival will take place in Zanzibar from February 9 to 14.
The festival’s Director, Yusuf Mahmoud, told reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday that several local and foreign artists are expected to perform during the event.
He named the artists as Lady Jaydee, Ferooz and Daz Nundaz, Mchinga Generation, Mandojo & Domokaya, Parapanda Theatre Lab, Bi Kidude, Jagwa Music, Culture Musical Club, Wagosi wa Kaya and Tamarin Band.
Others are Mkalimala Culture Group, Saki Stars, Jang’ombe Nursery School, Black Roots, Zemkala and Kyandu Music Band.
The list also has Black Roses, an Afro-Reggae band from Swaziland, New Sound Band (Burundi), Ukoo Flani Maumau (Nairobi), Amina (Mombasa), Atongo Zimba (Ghana), Taffetas, musicians from Swaziland, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Burkina Fasso, Afro Jazz and rappers from UK, Ghana and Nigeria.
He said the objective of the festival is to promote the wealth and diversity of Swahili music, seeking out the best in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and beyond.
“Sauti za Busara is about bringing people together, where city meets shamba, young greet old. It is about having a good time, and it is about mixing neighbours with distant cousins,” he said.
He also said there will be non stop shows everyday.The festival will first be held at the Old Fort in Stone town from February 9 to 12 and then shift to Kendwa Beach on February 14.
The festival is sponsored by Ford Foundation, Africalia, Celtel, Holiday Inn, British Council, Embassy of France, Pro Helvetia, Air Tanzania and Ultimate Security.
